It is so wonderful to disconnect with life’s problems through a soothing and relaxing yoga session — being able to get away from the computer, turning off the cell, and jumping into your comfy yoga gear to escape the madness even if it’s just for a little while…After all it is essential to avoid going completely bananas (a.k.a crazy) with some R&R. Here are a few great studios to schedule in for some TLC for yourself.

Styles: Gentle-Yoga/Cansupport (free for cancer patients of all ages), Hatha All-Levels, Hot Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Hatha by Donation (taught by teachers in training), and Yin Yoga.
There are special workshops and events such as Kids Yoga, Prenatal classes, and Mom and Baby Yoga throughout the year. They also offer teacher training in Hatha, Yin Yoga styles and Gentle Yoga (starting this October).

Styles: Yoga Flo 1 (alignment, breath, and postures in a slower flow series), Yoga Flo 2 (breath emphasized in the dynamic Vinyasa class incorporating strength, flexibility, and endurance) and Jivamukti (dynamic Vinyasa sequences, hands-on adjustments, breathe awareness, chanting, music, meditation, and relaxation) and private classes which can be custom designed to your skills and yoga practice goals (great for beginners who may be shy or nervous about yoga).
During the summer (June 3- August 28), Luna encourages yogis to take their practice outside with classes held in the grass by the Old Port. Proceeds go to the Yoga Mala Foundation.
Hatha Yoga Shala

Style: Shadow Yoga (Montreal’s only yoga studio offering it) – a style designed to lead the practitioner to the practice of freestyle, a practice of improvisation based on inner guidance and appropriate response to the needs of the moment. Style: Moksha (40 poses in a heated room), Moksha Flow (Vinyasa sequences), Moksha Level 2, Power Flow (advanced cardio yoga), Power Flow 2 (second part to Power Flow), Ashtanga, Yin Yoga, Karma classes (students only by $5 donation, proceeds go to charity), and community classes (taught by new teachers).

Style: Restorative Yoga to Yoga Wall (a safe deepening process) and Vinyasa classes. The studio offers donation based classes in meditation and sound yoga to provide an education on the more subtle practices of Yoga.
Their signature two-hour Naada Live class combines all the elements of their other classes focusing on breath and sound work.

Style: Bikram Yoga is an intensive workout, a challenging experience for both beginners and experienced yogis. The room is heated to 42 degrees during the 90 minute session. If you want to increase muscle mass, stamina, and lose weight, Bikram Yoga is for you. This is not a meditative session, be prepared to sweat and hard work!
The TMR studio (on Dunbar ave.) will be hosting Bikram himself in the fall we will also host Rajashree his wife who was yoga champion of the world at 4 years old.
Sattva Yoga Shala4812 St.Laurent
Style: Ashtanga- a dynamic form of yoga developed by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. The original method is called “Mysore style”. Regular practice, strength, stamina, stability and flexibility are gradually developed, as is mastery of the postures.
