Remember the last time your company created a contest with a really big juicy prize for the winner? Remember how much excitement it generated, the amount of discussion it produced among employees?  Something tangible, something you could fantasize about, something everyone else would envy you for winning.  Sometimes it’s a car (see: the Mary Kay Pink Cadillac), sometimes it’s a home entertainment system, but most often it’s a trip. That’s right, an all-expenses paid holiday to Mexicoor southern California, with colourful posters of beach settings splashed all over the break room and intranet site.  Whether or not the dollar value is higher than a cash bonus, these contests and awards always get people buzzing a lot more than extra numbers on their paycheque. It’s only normal, this captures the imagination more than a dollar bonus.  That’s why, today more than ever,paid vacations to motivate employeeswork better than cash!

Regardless of the position, and as shown over time with research studies, staff members at almost any job in almost any industry produce better when they have something to aspire to.  Of course, a sufficient base salary and benefits package are a prerequisite, but when extra incentives are dangled like the proverbial carrot, it really gets an employee’s juices flowing.  All of a sudden, their commitment and motivation levelsshoot through the roof and they start tracking their own performance, always pushing for more.  Target-based and profit-sharing rewards are ok, but they’re a little too commonplace and maybe even expected in some businesses.  It`s more effective and unique to offer your workers a wellness package–with activities– than to pay out boring cash.  For example, set objectives and if the employees reach their targets, they will be handed retreat vacations for couples, courtesy of their employer.  Imagine the reaction when that person gets home and tells their significant other they’re going on a free trip?  Enthusiasm and pride will soar.

Why travel instead of home appliances or a gift certificate?  Travel holidays, it has been shown, is usually the most enticing trophy of them all.  Besides the prestige involved, a vacation represents an escape from the stress of your everyday life. It is vital for hard workers to get enough vacation time every year and get away from the workplace (and maybe even skip the country). They need to renew and revitalize, and come back with renewed enthusiasm for their job and the beloved company that treated them to this delight.
